You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest knows / Where you are. You must let it find you.
Hi there, {{first name | friend}}.
I’m convinced if we asked each other “how are you sleeping?” instead of “how are you doing?” we’d finally get to the heart of it.
I’m writing to you from Hendersonville, Tennessee, where I’m tucked into the corner of a couch built for 10 - under a blanket because it’s 94 degrees out and of course I’m cold.
Rest has been a priority this weekend - after spending meaningful time in all the U.S. time zones these past few months, my internal perimenopausal clock has no idea what’s going on.
I’m here because Saya Hillman is hosting her you-had-me-at Comfy Club Getaway - a weekend of you do you - and it’s everything that I need right now.
The house we’re gathering in has a library - real, paper books are a novelty for me as I travel - and on the shelf I found a copy of a book that I gave away more than five years ago when I made the choice to sell my home + things and travel full-time.
I don’t think it’s an accident that I’ve rediscovered it here.
In The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom, Don Miguel Ruiz’s second agreement - Don’t Make Assumptions - encourages us to find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want.
It seems like assumptions are all I’m making these days.
So many conversations have a beginning, a messy middle, and a resolution - before they’ve ever left my head.
Emails sit unread in my inbox because I’m convinced I know what they say - before I’ve even opened them.
I’m making assumptions about motives. Reasons. Outcomes. Whether any of it was even about me at all.
I don’t know. I won’t know. You may never know. It very most certainly {most likely} is not.
I needed this nudge from the universe reminding me what I already know.
Maybe you do, too.
To taking the risk,

P.S. You’re hearing from me because once upon a time, you wanted to. It feels good to be writing to you again, but if that’s changed for you - no hurt feelings. Scroll down to the end to unsubscribe.

From Bound & Determined℠
After a profound experience with burnout, I founded Adjunct Advisors in 2018 to help insurance professionals navigate the range of emotions that so many feel in the course of building a career in insurance - but so few talk about. In To Taking the Risk, I share my own viewpoint on sales, leadership, and cultural change within the insurance industry, as well as notes from my travels since making the decision to sell my home and things in early 2021. Thank you for being here, and for supporting the work I do.
