Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet

Hi there, {{first name | friend}}.

I’m writing to you from the passenger seat of my own car, just outside of Rock Springs, Wyoming. My guy is in charge of driving and therefore our playlist on this leg as we’re making our way from Portland to Omaha - where the podcast tour begins on Monday.

Plans for the tour have been in the works for months - venues, guests, food, tickets, things to print, things to sort, things to count. My type-A-Virgo-I clean when I’m stressed- heart seriously loves this process.

So many moving parts. So many spreadsheets.

So many things that can go wrong.

{were you also not blessed with a glass half full view? the glass is definitely half empty and probably has a slow leak I haven’t yet detected}

And this - what my very wise therapist calls catastrophizing - is the part of the process I’d rather skip.

Of course I have all sorts of evidence that the opposite of a catastrophe is about to happen - 12 past gatherings, specifically.

And there will be joy and hugs and tears and ahas in these spaces over the next three weeks - I know it.

But today, on the eve of the eve of the start, there are just nerves.

And I’m honoring that that is part of the process, too.

To taking the risk,

P.S. Your replies after I write are the best. To those who wrote with gratitude that I’m back in your inbox, thank YOU - and to those navigating challenging seasons with family, I see you and am in awe of your strength.

From Bound & Determined℠

After a profound experience with burnout, I founded Adjunct Advisors in 2018 to support the professionals who choose a career in insurance to navigate the range of feelings that so many of us experience - but so few talk candidly about. In To Taking the Risk, I share my own viewpoint on sales, leadership, and cultural change within the insurance industry, as well as notes from my travels since making the decision to sell my home and things in early 2021. Thank you for being here, and for supporting the work I do.
